History

Catholic schools have been serving families in the Duluth Area for more than a century, providing high quality education in a faith-filled environment. We're very proud of this tradition and committed to a future with thriving Catholic schools serving all Duluth neighborhoods.

In 2003, Duluth Bishop Dennis Schnurr (now Archbishop of Cincinnati) formed a Blue Ribbon Committee to develop a common vision and action plan that would support and strengthen Catholic schools in the Duluth area. This diverse group of pastors, educators, parents, and community leaders worked with Meitler Consultants, Inc., a firm that specializes in strategic planning for Catholic churches and schools. Together, they examined our schools and defined a positive, practical, and proactive path for their continued success. Their top recommendation was development of a unified school system with shared resources and common oversight.

This recommendation was implemented in 2006 with the formal establishment of the Duluth Area Catholic School System, a unified system of five campuses that offers a continuum of education from preschool to grade eight. Since then, our schools have come together with energy and enthusiasm, partnering in many key areas, while retaining the unique character and qualities that make each school special. All Duluth-area parishes have joined in supporting this vital ministry, as well, not just those with schools on their sites. This spirit of cooperation is a blessing for our schools and the families they serve.

Working together ensures schools with a strong Catholic identity, high academic standards, attractive and well-maintained buildings, growing enrollment, long-term financial stability, and expanding educational programs and opportunities today and in the future.
